According to the General Administration of Customs' statistical bulletin today, my country's textile and clothing exports in 2024 will be US$301.1 billion, breaking the US$300 billion mark again, up 2.8% year-on-year. Among them, textile exports were US$141.96 billion, up 5.7% year-on-year; clothing exports were US$159.14 billion, up 0.3% year-on-year.
In terms of RMB, textile and clothing exports for the whole year were 2.14 trillion yuan, up 4% year-on-year. Among them, textile exports were 1.01 trillion yuan and clothing exports were 113 million yuan, up 7% and 1.4% year-on-year respectively.
Looking back at 2024, my country's textile industry export trade achieved steady growth. From the first to the fourth quarter of 2024, my country's textile exports remained in the positive growth range, and the export growth rate in the fourth quarter expanded by 12 percentage points compared with the third quarter; the growth rate of clothing exports fluctuated in a U-shaped manner, and the export growth rate in the second quarter turned from positive to negative, and gradually warmed up and stabilized after the fourth quarter.
The export volume of my country's textile industry to major markets such as the United States, ASEAN and the European Union has steadily recovered, with a year-on-year growth rate of 4.6% to 7.7% in 2024. Among them, the growth rate of exports to the United States has remained above 5% for five consecutive months, exceeding the growth rate of global exports; the export volume of textiles and clothing to Cambodia and Thailand in ASEAN, the Netherlands and Spain in the European Union has increased by more than 8% year-on-year.
Although the growth rate of my country's textile industry's export trade to markets such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Russia is in a downward range, the year-on-year decline has narrowed. The diversified international market pattern is accelerating. At present, the proportion of my country's textile industry's exports to countries participating in the construction of the "Belt and Road" has reached nearly 55% of the total exports, and the export performance to Bangladesh in South Asia, Kazakhstan in Central Asia, Poland in Central Europe, and South Africa in Africa is outstanding.
Looking forward to 2025, my country's textile enterprises need to give full play to the efficiency and integrated competitive advantages of the complete industrial system and make every effort to stabilize the export market share; at the same time, actively explore both domestic and international markets, accelerate the construction of a new development pattern of dual circulation, and win the initiative in the increasingly complex international competition.
